Mental Health and Chiropractics

It has grown increasingly popular for most people these today to deal with emotional and mental hardships by using medications such as Prozac, however in recent years the American Pyschological Association published a groundbreaking article, Listening to Prozac, which found that the effect of most antidepressants were largely due to a placebo effect. According to this study and many others like it, drugs like Prozac are almost useless.

The adrenal glands are your stress glands and they are a part of the fight/flight system. They help in many areas: releasing adrenalin and cortisol to help in protection, regulating blood sugar and blood pressure, producing hormones, balancing mineral levels, and assisting the body in dealing with all types of stress. When the adrenal glands are overworked and overburdened though poor lifestyle habits (emotional, mental, chemical and physical stress), they become burnt out or fatigued, which is commonly referred to as “adrenal fatigue”.
As a survival mechanism, the thyroid gland is called on to do what it can to take up the slack.
Sadly, we are not helping the thyroid these days with poor nutrition and chemicals (fluoride, lack of iodine, soy and corn oil, heavy metals, etc.) as well as Subluxation at the base of the neck from poor posture known as anterior head carriage, jokingly called “text neck”, where incidentally, the thyroid is innervated. Eventually, the thyroid which plays a role in metabolism and weight regulation becomes exhausted and fatigued (which contributes to the increase in obesity and hyper and hypo thyroid conditions) and now you have two glands that are dysfunctional.

When both the adrenals and the thyroid become fatigued and overworked to the point of exhaustion, the pituitary or “master gland” is called on to release “stimulating” hormones to try to boost the endocrine system to get it functioning again. Once this takes place, there is no way the pituitary can keep up, especially when the nerves innervating the pituitary (upper cervical/neck) are also Subluxated from poor posture, accidents, birth trauma, vaccines, chemicals, etc., leaving the pituitary weak to begin with.

When your glands are NOT producing hormones and there is a chemical imbalance, it will directly affect mood and demeanor. That imbalance, which stems from stress and Subluxation, can be expressed in many ways such as anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, and bipolar, mood and behavior disorders. Also for those who have an over-stressed and Subluxated nervous system that leads to hormone imbalance, it can also directly tie into headaches, fatigue, irritability, poor metabolism, obesity, the craving for sugar and many other addictions and substance abuse, most of which can be warning signs of depression and/or anxiety.

Chiropractic Can Help Break the Cycle! Chiropractic wellness can help with depression and anxiety by addressing the stressors that are causing the neurological imbalance which leads to a disruption of endocrine function. Furthermore, if subluxation exists, chiropractic care will remove the subluxations and allow the body to find balance and optimal function so that it can begin the healing process.
If you are looking for a natural, solution for depression and anxiety, get your endocrine system back on track by re-balancing your nervous system through improving your lifestyle and by having your nervous system evaluated by a chiropractor.

Causes of Chiropractic Pain

Image result for causes of chiropractic pain
Poor diets, increasing body weight, longer working hours, skipping exercise, and the stress of life can sneak up on you to create many painful body issues. We are living in a world that requires us to jam-pack our days with work and activities, and it leaves little time for us to take care of our bodies, which we rarely realize needs attention until it is too late.

When we experience physical or even just emotional stress, it makes our muscles strain and contract, which cause pain and stiffness. Sitting in a fixed position for extended periods of time (such as hunched over a computer desk, staring at a screen) can cause postural stress, which causes our neck muscles, and even shoulders and arm muscles, to tighten and become painful. Practicing good posture and sitting up straight when you notice yourself slouching is a great start to minimizing pain. However, visiting a Chiropractor is one of the best ways to learn how to properly take care of your body.?

Chiropractic as treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)?
"A lot of people suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome remains embezzled about the causes of CTS. Many associate obesity, diabetes, hypothyroidism, pregnancy, arthritis, and trauma as causes of CTS. As for reports, rare diseases such as Amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, leukemia, and multiple myeloma can trigger to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. However, researchers claimed that these have no substantial evidence to prove the truth.
Symptoms of Tunnel Carpal Syndrome:
People with carpal tunnel syndrome primarily feel tingling and numbness of the hand that circulate in the median nerve (the thumb, middle, index, and pinky fingers). These feelings are often manifest at night and can disturb a nights rest and result in poor productivity during the day. The cause of worsening at night is related to fluid gathering around the wrist or hand lying flat and flexed-wrist sleeping position. Carpal tunnel syndrome may be an impermanent illness that totally resolves or it can progress.
As the syndrome progresses, patients may experience cramping, burning sensation, and/or and faintness of the hand. Slow grip strength of object can lead to frequent dripping. Infrequently, sharp tingling pains can be sensed in the forearm. Prolonged carpal tunnel syndrome can also trigger (atrophy) a condition in which ones wasting hand muscles, mainly those near in the palm and base of the thumb of the hand.
Chiropractic as treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Chiropractic treatment shows relevant effect in controlling pressure to joint point. Chiropractors may advise patients to get some rest of the affected areas where pain persist. It is often implemented to have cold patches on affected arm areas to reduce inflammation, wear splint, perform exercises and braces to the immobilize areas.
Chiropractic care also focuses on the wrist, and upper spine. Some findings prove that misalignment in the spine areas does trigger the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. And it is important that adjustments are done to correct the alignment in your spine. Everyone’s case is different some applied specific treatment.

What Does Chiropractic for Nerve Damage Involve? (Causes and Treatment)

The spinal cord is the main structure between your body and the brain.   It holds a bundle of nerves that send signals from the brain to all parts of the body.   Our spinal cord consists of 31 pairs of nerves, which is protected by a bony spinal column that exits through openings between the vertebrae.   Damage to a single nerve may cause dysfunctional pain of the entire nervous system.   Damage to a nerve group, such as ulnar nerve can also mean damage to other single nerves.   Single nerve damage may lead to wide array of body disorders and pain.
Causes:
  1. Autoimmune diseases: Guillain Barre Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, lupus, myasthenia, and inflammatory bowel diseases are the common autoimmune diseases that attack the peripheral nerves.
  2. Cancer:   Nerve pain and nerve damage in some instances are symptoms of cancerous masses.   Nutritional deficiencies can also result in certain types of cancers. However, treatments for cancer (i.e. chemotherapy and radiation) may cause nerve pain and nerve damage.
  3. Compression/ Trauma:  Caused by compression of nerves or results in trauma can result in nerve damage.
  4. Diabetes:   Studies say that 25% of people who have diabetes, suffer from nerve pain. A diabetic person has sensory nerves that often experience a burning sensation and numbness.
  5. Toxic substances and drug side effects:  Various toxins and substances that are entering our body unintentionally, may cause nerve damage and nerve pain.  Medication such as chemotherapy for cancer has the ability to cause intense nerve pain.   Ingestion of toxic substances like arsenic, lead, and mercury causes nerve damages.
  6. Motor Neuron Diseases: These are the nerves found in your spinal column and brain that sends signal to all parts of your body.  Motor neuron diseases include amyotrophic sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, this progresses or worsens the nerve damage.
  7. Nutritional deficiencies: Vitamin B complex deficiencies, as well vitamins B6 and B12, can cause nerve pain and nerve damage, resulting in weakness and burning sensations.
  8. Infectious disease: Lyme disease, the herpes viruses, hepatitis C, and HIV can result to terrible nerve pain.
Treatment:
Chiropractors consult the causes of pain and medical history of the patient, and perform physical examinations.  These examinations involve using lab tests or diagnostic imaging to determine the appropriate treatment for your nerve pain.
The treatment process may involve one or more manual adjustments in which the chiropractor examines the joints, making the proper Chiropractic adjustment to enhance quality of nerves and improve bone alignment. Many chiropractors incorporate exercise, rehabilitation, and nutritional counseling into the treatment plan (depending on the cause of nerve damage). Chiropractic takes in control of the prevention and restoration of injuries.

The Truth about Sciatica and Lower back pain

The sciatic nerve is the largest single nerve in the body. It starts in the lower spine and runs down the back of each leg. This nerve controls the muscles of the back of the knee and lower leg and provides sensation to the back of the thigh, part of the lower leg, and the sole of the foot. Sciatica is a common ailment among Hispanics. Sciatica occurs when there is pressure or damage to the sciatic nerve.

When this nerve is pinched the result is lumbar, buttock, hip, and leg pain. Sciatica usually affects only one side of the lower body. Often, the pain extends from the lower back all the way through the back of the thigh and down through the leg. Depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected, the pain may also extend to the foot or toes. Common symptoms of sciatica include constant pain on one side of the rear, burning or tingling down the leg, weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot, and a shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up. Do not fret, it may actually be a piriformis muscle syndrome and that is simple to treat. Chiropractic treatment is the optimum choice for those suffering from sciatica and piriformis muscle syndrome.

A chiropractor is a neurological and musculoskeletal expert. A nerve exam, evaluation and history will be performed to figure out exactly what is causing the pain. The chiropractor will then recommend a course of treatment which may include adjustments, to correct misalignments of the spine and pelvis; stretching and strengthening exercises; and ice or heat therapy. This helps alleviate the pressure, and spasms of the muscles. A posture evaluation may also be performed to see how you can incorporate relieving stress off the sciatic nerve in your daily living.
